Master of Arts (M.A.) in English is a full-time two-year postgraduate Programme of Mahatma Gandhi University under the Credit and Semester System.

The programme is strictly in compliance with the UGC Minimum Standards for the conduct and award of Post Graduate Degrees.

The department of English is committed to provide quality education to transform the students from learners to achievers. The students who pursue this programme at DiST can explore the system enriched resources. They would be trained to read literary texts in various cultural, social and political contexts. Apart from the thorough exposure in literature, the life skills and communication skills of the students are chiselled and refined. They will be given ample opportunity for academic writing and paper presentation. In addition to the regular pedagogy of the programme, the department implements various methodologies to inculcate the social and ethical dimensions of research and ensures the academic upgradation and holistic development of the students.

The programme is offered in four semesters of five papers each and the final semester consists of elective papers. Project work is an essential component for the completion of the programme.

Graduation in English under (Model I/II/III) or graduation in other faculties of language and literature, social science, science, oriental studies are eligible for applying for MA programme in English provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria as detailed below. I. For CBCCS 2013 pattern - CCCPA of 4.5 out of 10.00 in the Core Group (core + open + complementary courses or if the CCPA scored by the graduate for common course is greater than the CCPA scored for core course and is 5.0 or above. II. For CBCSS 2009 pattern – CGPA of 1.80 out of 4 or if the CGPA for common course if greater and is 2 or above. III. For Other patterns – 45% marks in core + subsidiary under part III or if the marks for Part I English is greater than the marks in Part III and is 50% or above.
