De Paul Organisation for Women Empowerment (DOWE)

De Paul Institute of Science & Technology, Angamaly (DiST), approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to M G University, Kottayam has made its mark in the educational landscape of higher education in Kerala since its inception in the year 2002. Over these two decades of its existence DIST has embraced a system which caters to the holistic development of its student community. Clubs and Associations are platforms where the students explore their career, practice their craft, have fun and socialize at the same time.

The Women’s Club at DiST, De Paul Organization for Women Empowerment (DOWE) was established in DiST on International Women’s Day, 8th March, 2018, with the intention to encourage and empower the girl students as well as the women faculty and to enhance their understanding of gender related issues.

2018-2019

Women’s Club ( DOWE ) Inauguration & International Women’s Day Celebration March 08- 2018

The official inauguration of De Paul Organization of Women Empowerment (DOWE) and International Women’s Day celebration was conducted on 8th March 2018 at DiST Seminar Hall. The programme began with a prayer song by Angel Jose of ECJ 16, Secretary, DOWE. The gathering was welcomed by Assistant Professor Ms. Ritha Sabu. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Leena Joseph, Asst. Professor, Department of Zoology, Morning Star Home Science College, Angamaly. Dr. Unny C.J, Principal, DiST, and Ms. Ambily Pramitha, HoD, BCA, DiST, felicitated the event. An ad film by BA Multimedia 2015 students on women empowerment was launched by Rev. Father Lindo Puthuparambil VC, Finance Director DiST. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nellickattu VC, Administrator DiST launched a Radio Drama written and directed by BA English Communication and Journalism 2016 batch. The inaugural ceremony ended by 11.30 am with the vote of thanks proposed by Krupa Varkey MHRM 17 President, DOWE. After the inaugurationan interaction session was arranged for students with the chief guest Ms.Leena Joseph.

Self Defense Programme 19-12-2018

De Paul Organization for Women Empowerment (DOWE) organized a training programme in Self Defense at DiST Annex Hall on 19th December 2018. This event was organized for empowering students with self-defense skill and know how to deal with accidental situations. The event opened with a silent prayer followed by a welcome speech by Ms. Swetha Ann Thomas (MCJ 18), Join SecretaryDOWE. Team lead of Police Women’s cell Ms. Jisha Devi V.J addressed the gathering and introduced the relevance of self-defense training and how is it useful in our daily life specially in the present situation of the society. Followed by the training session took place and it was handled by MS. Jisha Devi V.J, Gracy P.C, Jinumol M.D, Biji K.N from Kerala Police Women Cell . Anjith KA (ECJ 18), Treasurer DOWE gave the vote of thanks. Training programme come to an end by 1.00 pm

Umbrella Making 28-06-2018

De Paul Organization of Women Empowerment (DOWE) organized a one-day workshop in making umbrellas at DiST Reading Room, Annex Hall on 28th June 2018. This was done so as to empower students with a skill which could be used later to empower them. Around 21 students from various departments of the college participated in the workshop. Ms Annie Jose who has years of experience in the craft of making umbrellas was the resource person for this event. The programme began with a prayer song by Angel Jose (ECJ 16), Secretary, DOWE. Assistant professor Ms. Anuja Das PM welcomed the gathering. The workshop began at 10.30 am and ended at 3.00 pm. Around 21 umbrellas were made on that day. The first sale of umbrella was done by Fr. Linto Puthuparambil VC (Finance Director, DiST). 18 of 21 umbrellas were sold on that day.

The event opened with a prayer song by Anamika of BCA 18 followed by a welcome speech by Anjitha K A (BA ECJ 17) President, DOWE. Chief-guest Rahana Rafeek, wildlife photographer officially inaugurated the event and Dr. Unni CJ, Principal DiST, addressed the gathering. Asst. Professor Ambily Pramitha, HOD School of Computer Science UG, gave the felicitation. A memento was handed over to the chief-guest Rahana Rafeek as a token of love and Devi Chandran of BA ECJ 18 gave the vote of thanks. Deepna (Join Secretary) and Mariya of BCA 18 were the Masters of Ceremony. After the official inauguration of the event, there was a seminar and an interactive session on ‘Empowering Yourself’ by the chief-guest.

Best From Waste 26-08-2019

Logo Design Contest 20-08-2019

DiST Women's Club 'DOWE' announced a logo design contest for the club. The contest was open for all students and faculty members.
The following are the conditions and requirements:

  • Entries as Hard copy as well as in Digital Format/Soft copy is also acceptable.
  • Submit the completed entries to the respective class animators or the club faculty -in- charge on or before 20 August 2019.
  • Winners will be awarded a descent cash prize.

As per the response of the notice given 36 contestants registered for participation. But only 27 entries were received at DOWE email. From the short-listed entries the best entry was chosen and awarded the cash prize offered to the winners. The prize winning logo was designed by Pavithra Chandran from MCAD 2018, and it was digitalized by Aprna from BAAM-2018 Batch.

International Women’s Day Celebration 09-03-20220

De Paul Organisation for Women Empowerment celebrated International Women’s Day at DiST on 09March, 2020 at 1.30 p.m at DiST Annex Hall, in association with DePaul Extension Service. The programme began with the prayer song sung by Ms. Anitha – from MCJ 19. Ms.Anjitha K.A from ECJ 2018 ( President DOWE) welcomed the gathering. Presidential Addressal was rendered by Fr.George Pottayil V.C (Ditector DiST).

Ms.MiniChacko Puthussery, a differently abled woman was honored by the gathering and appreciated her versatile potentials by each and every one. The programme further moved on to the guest’s speech by the distinguished guest MiniChacko. Respected Dr. Unni C.J (Principal DiST) felicitated the gathering with immense pleasure and contentment. Followed by the felicitation, DOWE logo release was done by Fr.Lindo Puthuparambil V.C (Finance Director DiST).

Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ms. Aswani Madhu MAJMC 19 (PG Representative DOWE). With vote of Thanks the formal segment of the event has come to an end. After a short break Women’s Day Message was given by Ms. Priya Antony P (Counsellor, SNEHITHA) (Chief Guest).Her words enlightened the audience and they were the words of motivation and inspiration. With the National Anthem at the end the International Women’s Day programme came to an end at 4.00p.m.

2020-2021

Webinar (Believe in Yourself – Empower and Enrich Your Life Ahead 22 -08-2020)

The non-harassment cell (ICC) and De Paul Organization of Women empowerment (DOWE) the Women’s club in association with the DiST IQAC of De Paul Institute of science & technology jointly organized the webinar on 22 August ,2020 webinar on the topic “Believe in yourself – Empower and Enrich your life ahead” for the undergraduate and post graduate students .137 participants attended the webinar.

The welcome address was done by Asst. Prof. Sherin Paul, member in-charge of ICC, DiST. The resource person was Ms. VIJAYAM CHETHANATH, M.Sc. (Psych), PGDGC, M.Phil. ,Research Scholar and motivational speaker. Platform for the webinar used was – Google meet.

The resource person spoke on self-confidence is a prerequisite for taking massive action. She said “You need to believe in yourself – in your abilities, skills and passions – to take the leap into action or any other aspiration. Believing in yourself is the lynchpin of exceptional leadership because self-confidence lets you manage and inspire others with assurance and direction.

The interaction session was led by Asst. Prof. Ritha Sabu, member in-charge of DOWE the Women’s Club DiST. Students interacted very well. Vote of thanks was rendered by Ms. Sini Sebastian, the student counsellor, DiST.

International Women’s Day -08/03/2020 celebration

International Women's Day at DiST was celebrated on 08, March,2021 at 10.45 a. m in Seminar Hall. The club took initiative to honour the supporting staff of the institute on this day in order to recognise, acknowledge and appreciate their care and love in and around the campus and towards the each and every individual associated with DiST in their day-to-day life. The programme began with a silent prayer to evoke God' blessings. It was followed by the Welcome Speech rendered by Anna Elizabeth Tom from B.A. English Literature Communication and Journalism 2019 Batch.

The dais was keen to listen to the words of Fr. George Pottayil V.C Director DiST while delivering the Presidential address. He appreciated the selfless and deeply devoted service of each and every supporting staff of the institute. His ardent words were indeed so touching that it was evident from the face of many from the audience. Fr. Director expressed his wholehearted appreciation to the club for organizing such a programme which gave a chance to this flock of society, who are left unnoticed and their dedicated service are seldom recognised and acknowledged.

Fr. Lindo Puthuparambil V.C was glad and excited about appreciating the punctuality and meticulous execution of duties entrusted to them. He also made a special mention about the love and bondage that each of them keeps among themselves and also the workspace.

After the felicitation, all of the supporting staff were honoured by giving them a memento as a token of love, admiring their service, care and fondness. Before the conclusion of the programme, representing the supporting staff, Reena Biju, one of the supporting staffs, proposed vote of Thanks in honest and simple words. It was indeed true words of their real life at DiST.

The programme came to a happy ending with the music note of National Anthem. To capture the sweet moments in frames there was arranged a photo session also. All the supporting staff were deeply excited, touched and emotional by this event and they hugged and thanked the organisers to express their first- ever such experience. The event came to a happy and fruitful end by 12.00 p.m

Webinar (Understanding the Laws on Non-Harassment to Speak Out and Stand Up 13/03/2021)

The Internal Complaints Cell and De Paul Organisation of Women Empowerment (DOWE) the Women’s club in association with the DiST IQAC of De Paul Institute of science & technology jointly organized the webinar on 13 March,2021 webinar on the topic “Understanding the laws on “Harassment to speak out and stand up” for the undergraduate and post graduate students 87 students attended the webinar.

The welcome address was done by Adv. Jency Jose, the legal counsellor of service providing centre, DiST. The resource person was Adv. Jiji Mathew, Former Additional District Government Pleader and Public Prosecutor, visiting professor – police academy and excise department. Platform for the webinar used was – Google meet.

The resource person spoke on if there is an unwanted conduct with sexual undertones, it can be classified as sexual harassment. Any unwelcome physical/verbal/non-verbal conduct of sexual nature, demands/requests of sexual favours, sexually coloured remarks, physical contact/advances or showing pornography is considered as sexual harassment.

Adv. Jiji spoke about a survey undertaken in 2017 by the Indian National Bar Association that over 6,000 employees—the largest conducted so far in India—found that sexual harassment was pervasive in different job sectors, ranging from lewd comments to an outright demand for sexual favors. Most women, it found, chose not to report sexual harassment to management because of stigma, fear of retribution, embarrassment, lack of awareness of reporting policies, or lack of confidence in the complaints mechanism. The interaction session was led by Adv. Jency Jose, students interacted very well. Vote of thanks was rendered by Ms. Malvika Sashi student of School of management and the student representative in ICC, DiST.

2021-2022

International Women’s Day Celebration Exhibition cum Sale – Veritᾰ De Cibo 08/04/2022)

DOWE conducted International Women’s Day at DiST with an innovative touch. DOWE organised an exhibition cum sale of variety of dishes and snack items - Varietᾰ Di Cibo (prepared at home) by women faculties and girl students. The programme opened at 11.00 a.m with the message from Principal Dr.Unny C.J. Fr.(Dr.) Robin Chittuparambil V.C felicitated the programme and appreciated the idea behind the programme on this special day which focuses on Women empowerment.

There were 13 counters altogether each with display of variety of dishes and a good number of snack items which all were sold out before the expected time. Students and teaching, non- teaching faculties from various departments have visited the stalls and grabbed various items per their tastes and interests. The programme was a grand success. People from all corners appreciated the event and suggested to have similar events more often.

‘DOWE SHOPPEE’ Programme Launching - 4/02/2022

The official launching of DOWE SHOPPEE- (a shopping platform for organic fruits, vegetables produced at home and different curios curated by women faculty and students at DiST) & it’s logo releasing programme was held at 11.30 a.m by Principal Dr.Unny C.J. Fr. Lindo Puthuparambil V.C felicitated the programme. Student from different batches representing the girls student fraternity attended the function. Staff coordinators Asst. Prof. Anita Issac and Asst. Prof. Ritha Sabu also were present throughout the event.

DOWE SHOPPEE CORNER Inauguration & Sale of Variety Products 04/03/2022

The official inauguration of DOWE SHOPPEE sales was held on 08 March 2022 at 9.40 a.m at DiST Annex Reception by Fr.George Pottayil V.C Director DiST. Dr.Unni C.J Principal DiSTand Fr.(Dr.) Robin Chittuparambil V.C Vice-Principal Dist have felicitated the programme. Fr.Lindo Puthuparambil V.C participated th event and promoted the sale process with enthusiasm which added more grace for the programme.The first sale was done by Principal. Many potted plants, organic vegetables,fruits and cakes were also for sale. DOWE volunteers and teaching faculties also have attended the Sale function.

One Day Seminar on Adolescence Health Problems 10/03/2022

Gynaecology Department Little Flower Hospital for Research Centre Angamaly organised a seminar on Adolescent Health Problems in association with DOWE at De Paul Institute of Science & Technology Angamaly on 10/03/2022 at DiST Seminar Hall from 2.00 T0 3.00 p.m.

The Programme has begun with a prayer by MCA students and proceeded to welcome address which was rendered by Asst.Prof.Ritha Sabu.In his Presidential Adress,Rev.Fr.George Pottayil V.C voiced about the need of such health awareness programmes in the changing social and medical scenario specially among the adolescent groups and amidst the yougsters.Dr.Unny C.J Principal DiST expressed his concern about the influence of over dependence of social media by every growing child. He appreciated and encouraged the role medical professionals in this field for giving proper guidance and accurate advises for the inquisitive young generation so that they get directed to the right path rather than dependent to often vigourously distorted and inappropriate social media information.Rev. Fr. Rocky Kollamkudy, (Asst..Director L.F Hospital Angamaly) felicitated the programme. We DOWE at DiST express our gratitude towards his generosity for attending the function and speaking a few words to the students gathered.

Dr.Stary Thomas the resource person, who is an experienced gynaecologist, gave a very informative session with a number of facts and figures. There was a short query session at the end of the main session. The entire session ended at 3.50 p.m
