Social Outreach Programme

School of Media and Communication organizes social outreach programs to sensitize students towards their duties and responsibilities within the society and community. It also develops their soft skills, leadership skills, and team-building skills. These opportunities help the students to build a sense of responsibility and sensitivity towards the society. More importantly, students can deepen their understanding of individual leadership, systemic change and social responsibility in the context of a local, national and global multi-cultural society. One of the main events done as part of this outreach programme is live reporting by partaking in Pokkali field harvesting.

Pokkali Reporting

The School of Media and Communication conducted a live reporting session for MA JMC 20 students on 03 November 2021 at Kaitharam in Kottupalli Panchayath in Ernakulam. It was based on their News Reporting practical. The team began from the college at 9:30 am and reached the destination at 10:30am. The students were given the opportunity to visit an event of Pokkali rice harvesting in Koonamavu, Kochi. Mature Pokkali from around 2 acres of land was reaped by Mass Communication and Journalism students from De Paul Institute of Science and Technology. The students interviewed various people who organized and attended the event. They got an opportunity to experience and understand how the whole cultivation is done and they learned more beyond their own lifestyle. This has enabled them to write news stories from various perspectives both for the print and broadcast media.
